Cross Country Running

When are tryouts?
Tryouts will take place at lunchtime on Tuesday September 24, Wednesday September 25, and Thursday September 26 for Primary students. Grade 4-6 students will tryout in their regular Physical Education class.

How far does my child have to run?
Grade 1 and Grade 2 students -1km (1000m)
Grade 3 – 1.5km (1500km)

How are runners selected to go to the meet on October 8?
Runners that can run the required distance without walking or resting will be chosen to compete. Any runners that can not run the distance may not compete on October 8.

What if I don’t think my child can run that far without resting?
Cross country running is hard. It takes good fitness and determination for runners to make the team. Every year students surprise themselves by doing far better than they thought they could. Trying is the only way to find out if they can do it. It is good exercise for runners even if they can’t run the whole distance. But if your child has a health condition which will be dangerous for them, it may be a good idea to not tryout.
