April 11 - forms due
April 11 or 12 - tryouts begin
April 11,12, 16, 18, and 19- Grade 2-6 Tryouts at lunch time
April 22 - Track and Field team selections will be posted

The following dates are for selected students only.
Boys Practices-Wednesdays after school (April 24, May 1)
Girls Practices- Thursdays after school (April 25, May 2)

Students not taking the bus should be picked up at 4:20 after practice.

Centennial Stadium (Rathburn and Renforth)

Congratulations.  Your child has earned a spot on Valleyfield’s Track and Field team.  We will be travelling to Centennial Stadium by school bus on Wednesday, May 8.  You have already given permission for your child to go to the meet by bus and by car, but if there is some reason he/she cannot go, please let us know as soon as possible.  We will be at the outdoor stadium all day, so it is important to come to school prepared.

What to bring:

·         Water!!!

Clothing

·         Running shoes (no spiked shoes are allowed)

·         Socks

·         Shorts or Track pants (check the weather report on this one)

·         Hat and sunscreen if it is going to be sunny

·         Jacket and umbrella (the track meet will go on if there is rain)

Food

·         Lunch

·         Snacks

·         Water

Behaviour

It is expected that our athletes will follow instructions from Valleyfield teachers and parent volunteers, as well as meet officials.  Our athletes will display good sportsmanship to members of our own team and students from other schools.  With so many children in one place it is important that a teacher’s permission is given before any student leaves our area in the stands.

Pick-ups

Most students will be back at Valleyfield for their regular bus at 3:05. Some events will be later in the afternoon. Students competing in these later events, will need to be picked up either at Centennial Stadium or at Valleyfield. Coaches will notify you if your child is competing in a later event. Please see the schedule on the back for your child’s event times. Any parents willing to help to drive athletes to and from the stadium are asked to please contact the school. 416-394-7590

The Selection Process
This is how we select the students for the Valleyfield Track and Field Team:
The rules of the Track and Field Meet are that Valleyfield may enter 1 student per event. Each student may be entered into a maximum of 2 events plus one relay.
Students who have come in first place in each event at our Valleyfield tryouts, will be entered in that event. If a student has come in first in 3 or more events, they may choose the two events they would like to be entered in. Then, the event they don't select will be offered to the 2nd place finisher.
