Cross Country Selections
Primary and Junior selections for the October 8 Cross Country Running Meet have been made. Students who have signed permission forms to tryout and participate in cross country or "Mileage Club" have permission to attend the meet. We will be travelling by school bus to Centennial park on Oct 8th. Please see the running schedule below. For grade 1 and 2 students, the run is non-competitive and runners will not be given a placement. For grade 3-6 students, they will compete against other students and be given a placement. We will need parent volunteers on the day of the meet. Please contact Mr. Graydon at ken.graydon@tdsb.on.ca or call 416-394-7590 to help out.
Cross Country can be very difficult exercise and we salute all that tried their best to complete the distances.

Cross Country and Mileage Club
It is cross country season again. Please see the tab above for more information specific to cross country tryouts. Primary students will have three tryouts, Sept. 24, 25 and 26. Junior Students will tryout in their regular Phys. Ed. classes. Students in grades 1 and 2 must run 1km (1000m) continuously. Grade 3's - 1.5km (1500km) and Grades 4-6 must run 2km (2000m). Anyone who can not complete the distance is not allowed to compete in the West Division Qualifier meet on October 8 at Etobicoke's Centennial Park. All students are encouraged to tryout if they are interested.
Proper equipment for cross country tryouts includes: running shoes, track pants or shorts, and appropriate shirt or sweatshirt. On some colder days a jacket and hat may be appropriate.
The Mileage Club will be an ongoing running club for those that want to improve their physical fitness and meet goals. Students will be asked to monitor their progress and get rewards for their accumulated "mileage". The club will continue past the cross country meets in the fall and resume in the spring. Milege club is open to all students in grades 4-6.

Track and Field Update
Well, it was a long and tiring day, but we had a great time. Thanks to all of the athletes who tried their best and made Valleyfield one of the best behaved, but loudest team in the stands. Supporting each other is perhaps what we learned most about. Individual achievements will be posted here. All athletes that placed in the top 8 in their event scored points for Valleyfield, and we await the official results tomorrow (Friday). Grade 4, 5 and 6 students that placed in the top 4 in their events will be invited back to the West Championship Friday May 24.

Track and Field Meet Wednesday May 8
Tomorrow is the Track and Field Meet. Information has been sent home about the meet schedule and some notes on what to bring. No spiked shoes are allowed at the track meet. Parents are welcome to come and watch. And we would be happy for parents who want to help.
**Some athletes' events are scheduled for after our bus leaves. This means parents of girls in the 200m and 800m races, and boys in the long jump after 2:25 will likely need to pick their children up at Valleyfield. All parents are welcome to pick their children up from the stadium after they have competed in their events.
The weather looks warm and good, but make sure your child is prepared with water, food, a hat, sunscreen and proper clothing. It can be a very long day.
For a copy of the letter that went home, please click the Track and Field tab above.

Track and Field Selections
Track and Field selections have been made. We know as coaches that it is hard to try out for something and not succeed. Of course, it is impossible to succeed without trying. We salute all athletes that made the effort to attend tryouts and give their best effort each day. For more information on how selections were made, please click on the Track and Field tab above.
We do have some unclear data in grade 4 girls' 100m, and grade 4 boys 800m runs so one final tryout will be necessary on Tuesday April 23 at lunch. As well, shot put tryouts begin on Wednesday at lunch.
Team members will bring home two additional permission forms. One is for giving them permission to stay for after school for practices. Boys on Wednesday April 24, and May 1; Girls on Thursday April 25 and May 2. The second form is for travelling to the Track and Field meet on May 8. We remind parents that teachers are volunteering their time for this team, and ask you to be on time when picking your children up from after-school practices.

Extra Track and Field Tryout added
We have decided to add an extra track and field tryout on Wednesday April 17 this week. Tryouts last Thursday and Friday had to be cancelled due to weather and it looks like more bad weather may be headed our way. Students should remember to wear running shoes and clothes for running.
